Earn Yield on USDC
Where USDC yield comes from, how lending markets and vaults compare, the real risks, and how to compare rates and deposit with an AI DeFi assistant.
Updated October 13, 2026
USDC sitting in a wallet earns nothing. In DeFi you can lend it out or deposit it in a vault and earn a variable return. This guide explains where that yield comes from, how the main options compare, the risks people underestimate, and how to compare rates and deposit with DeFiMara.
• Where USDC Yield Comes From
Yield is not free money; someone pays it. In lending markets such as Aave, Compound, Morpho or Spark, borrowers pay interest to take loans against their crypto, and that interest goes to depositors. When borrowing demand is high, rates rise; when it falls, so does your APY. Vaults (Yearn, Beefy, IPOR Fusion and others) take your deposit and move it between strategies — often several lending markets — to chase the best rate automatically.
• Lending vs Vaults
| Lending market | Vault | |
|---|---|---|
| How it earns | Interest from borrowers | A strategy that allocates across protocols |
| What you hold | A receipt token (for example aUSDC on Aave) | Vault shares that grow in value |
| Rate | Variable, set by supply and demand | Variable, depends on the strategy |
| Extra risk | The lending protocol itself | The vault and every protocol it uses |
| Effort | Pick a market and deposit | Deposit once; the vault rebalances |
