Bridge USDC to Base
Move USDC to Base from Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism or Polygon: what a bridge does, what it costs, how long it takes and how to do it in one sentence.

Base is Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2: the same addresses and tokens as Ethereum, with much lower fees. If your USDC sits on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism or Polygon, you need a bridge to move it to Base. This guide covers what bridging does, what it costs, and how to do it in DeFiMara by typing one sentence.
• What a Bridge Actually Does
Tokens cannot travel between chains on their own. A bridge takes your USDC on the source chain and delivers the equivalent USDC on Base — by burning and re-minting it, or by paying you from liquidity it already holds on Base. Different bridges trade off speed, fees and how much they can move. An aggregator such as Li.Fi compares many bridges and DEXs and picks a route for you, which is what DeFiMara uses.
• What It Costs and How Long It Takes
| Cost or wait | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Source-chain gas | Paid in the source chain's native coin (ETH on Ethereum, Arbitrum and Optimism, POL on Polygon). Highest on Ethereum mainnet. |
| Bridge fee | Charged by the bridge or included in the quote. Shown before you sign. |
| Token approval | The first time you bridge USDC with a route, your wallet may ask for a one-time approval (a separate small transaction). |
| Arrival time | Usually seconds to a few minutes, depending on the route. The quote shows an estimate. |
You do not need ETH on Base to receive USDC, but you will need a little ETH on Base to do anything with it afterwards, such as swapping or depositing.
